Fashion Glossary

Appliqué
Perfect for individual style, no two garments with appliqué are exactly the same. Appliqué are fabric or lace designs that are specially chosen, cut into different shapes, and then attached to your clothes by embroidery or stitching.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Pair shirts with appliqué detail with basic bottoms, that way, your look stays simple and stylish.

Bootcut Jeans
Made to fit comfortably over your ankle or knee high boots. The cut is slender and straight from the knee down. Leg openings approximately 18 inches.

Boycut Jeans
Premier casual wear. With a loose and relaxed fit, they’re similar to wearing your boyfriend’s denim (now he can have his back). Leg openings approximately 17 inches.

Crosshatch
An intertwining pattern that appears on select denim styles.

Dark Rinse Wash
As close to natural denim as you can get. The jeans are washed without harsh chemicals or stones, leaving them a deep, dark blue.
PacSun Fashion Tip: We love to pair button-front henley’s and plaid jackets with these classic style jeans.

Destructed
We wear it in for you. Just like your favorite pair of jeans, we defect the garment adding some holes, some frayed edges and some worn patches for authentic look and feel.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Add studded accessories and layered headbands to complete your look.

Embroidery
Just like your grandmother’s needlework. Adding that special touch, our ornamental trimming is carefully and beautifully stitched. We use a variety of threads, including silk, cotton and metallic materials.

Flare Jeans
Add some retro to your wardrobe. Perfectly fitted through the hip and thigh, these stylish jeans have a ‘70s flare that begins at the knee and travels to the ankle.
Leg openings approximately 20 inches.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Flares are more fabulous with wedges and platforms. Match with a large embellished belt buckle to complete your look.

Grinding
We apply this special treatment to the hems of your clothes to get the frayed, worn in look you crave.

Grommet
Think about the metal hole (eyelet) you connect to the snap (fastener) when you click your wallet shut. Grommets are various rings and eyelets that are used for fastening. Materials depend on where the grommet is located (ex. shirt, jeans, purse), coming in anything from cloth to leather to metal. Not to be confused with amateur surfers!

Low-Rise
How low can you go? You know you got the look when the waistband fits below your waist. Test your low-rise style! Our average low-rise is 9 inches from crotch to waist.

Lycra® Spandex
Your punk rock style staple. Stretchable, comfortable and man-made, some spandex materials are blended with other fibers such as cotton or nylon for a slightly different look or feel.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Flaunt jeans under knee high boots or layer bright spandex tops with your favorite tanks for punk-inspired power!

Pleat
Think about the basic uniform skirt of a Catholic schoolgirl. A pleat is the actual fold of fabric that gives it a neatly ruffled look. Generally pressed flat, the pleat allows you extra room in your clothes – just in case you need it.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Get creative and pair your pleats with slip-on sneakers in fresh colors and styles.

Rise
Rise or low? Rise is the measurement from the crotch of your pants or shorts to the top of the waistband.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Choose the style that fits your body best.

Rivet
Usually spotted on your pockets, rivets are cool details that lend some subtle, stand-out style to your attire. Most brands design their own. Look down at your jeans by the pockets. See the circular metal fasteners at each edge of the pocket? That is your rivet - a metal pin with two flat heads used to join or reinforce a connection point; in this case, your pocket.

Seam
Take a close look at your clothes. See where they are sewn together? That line, usually down the inside of your sleeve and on the inside and outside of your pants is the seam. Sometimes seams are decorative, sometimes they’re just plain functional. Look at your seams – dig what you see?

Skinny Jeans
Skinny. Slim. Tapered. Whatever way you say, skinny jeans are the hottest style to fly off the racks. You know you’ve got skinny style when your jeans are low-rise and have slim legs all the way to the ankle. Leg openings approximately 12 inches.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Pair your skinny’s with oversized cable knit sweaters and slip-ons for the ultimate casual style.

Stonewashed
Imagine the sound your washing machine would make if you threw some stones in with your jeans load. Don’t bother – we did it for you. We wash the denim with different sized pumice stones and water, giving your jeans a soft, comfy feel. You’ll never want to take them off!

Tankini
Not a tank. Not a bikini. A tankini is the marriage of a tank top and a bikini bathing suit: a two-piece bathing suit with a tank top and bikini bottom.
PacSun Fashion Tip: A summertime essential for every beach babe, tankini style goes from boardwalk to beach and back!

Tint
Choose the shade that defines your personality. Are you true blue, dark vintage or stone gray? Tint is the actual dye added to the fabric of your clothes, typically your jeans. Different tinting changes the original blue jean color to almost any shade you can imagine - so that you can express your style every time you put them on.
PacSun Fashion Tip: Match your bag to your jean tint to stay consistent.

Whiskers
Ever wonder how long it takes to get those cool worn crease marks on your jeans? Too long. We apply authentic whisker lines give the look of those wrinkles, usually located below the waistband and above the thigh of your jeans. With our help, you can now get hip vintage flair right away.
Yeah its stupid! I did not know there is so many freaking names for stuff you pay money for I all just thought it was STUFF.
I also went to Aropostale and bought a shirt and went to Victoria's Secret
Now i have 7 pairs of skinny jeans and 2 are in the wash so six in the pic!
